In a sensational autumnal Saturday, Haileybury football was able to record another successful day. Four of the five teams had wins. The Seniors came out on top, keeping them on top of the ladder. After a strong start, Marcellin fought their way back into the game, taking a slender lead at the main break. But the boys led by Plymo and Jacko in the midfield were able to regain the upper hand with a four goals to two third quarter. The game became more of an arm wrestle as both defences got on top. The last quarter produced more of the same but you got the sense, we had a bit more run in the legs and looked more threatening going forward. But the visitors kept coming but a couple of steadying goals from Pop and Corey Connelly meant we were able to hold on. Jimmy Paul led from the front all day, while Waiety bagged another four goals to continue his good form.
The highlight for the Ressies was a career best of 4 goals from Daniel Newby. The game got away from the guys in the first quarter and it was always going to be hard to claw back against a polished Marcellin side. Josh Alkemade toiled manfully all day.
The girls returned to the winners enclosure with a solid 13 point victory over Monash Uni. The U/19s knocked off top side Marcellin to now head the ladder in what was a gutsy 3 point victory. The First XVIII, on the other hand, recorded a comfortable victory over Geelong College to remain undefeated.
