The U/19s were the only victorious side this weekend, although all teams demonstrated a lot of spirit. The seniors went down to Caulfield but it was an excellent contest between the top two sides. The home side made more of the opportunities and were able to exploit their height advantage especially in their forward line. It was a bruising battle. We played the last 12 minutes with only 17 men which is something you don’t see much of these days. The game looked like getting away from us at half time, but a gutsy third quarter meant the game was going to go down to the wire. Trevo took a number of really solid marks in an excellent performance while Jacko once again toiled manfully in the ruck all day. Plymo and Nashy were the best of the onballers.
The Ressies went down by a few goals after being in the hunt all day. Sam Hall was dominant in the ruck which Ben O’Leary and Youngy lapped up. The Hearts will rue a scoreless second quarter. This proved the difference. The girls still sit in fourth spot and have a big game against ladder leaders West Brunswick next week. The U/19s returned to the top of the ladder with a strong win over Ormond. Best players were Constable, Seccull and Loewe, illustrating the strength of the Haileybury Father-son program!
