REIGNING GOALS AT PP

It was a day for the goalkickers as the Bloods scored three important victories on Saturday. The club also had a first with the Hearts having the club’s first ever female trip away – but nothing to report! There was plenty to report on the footy front however. The seniors got back to their best running, attacking football with a very solid victory over fourth placed Williamstown. The Ressies scored a rousing victory while the U/10s were polished against Hampton Rovers.

Williamstown came out of the blocks well and kicked the first two goals of the game in ideal football weather. But the boys steadied and while Waiety invariably had 6 opponents hanging off him, this allowed Corey Connelly to get into the action.

Going into the second quarter with an eight point deficit, it was going to be an important stanza. And the boys responded with an eight goal quarter. Finally the shackles were off and Waitey was rewarded with some well deserved free kicks and ended up with five goals for the quarter. There was plenty of run off the backline with Nicho leading the way. The backline, led stoically by Tim Witherow and Aaron Toy, kept Williamstown to just the one major. The quarter set up the result although the visitors rallied in the third stanza and perhaps could have been a bit closer at 3/4 time. But everything clicked on the day. Jimmy Paul was back to his dashing best, Trevo and Jacko gave us first use of the ball and the forward line was clicking. Amazingly we kicked 17 goals but had only four goalkickers. Waiety kicked 7, Corey 5, Pop 4 and Nashy one.

The Ressies comntinued their rich vein of form with an emotional “come from behind” victory. The boys were in front for most of the first three quarters but the visitors rallied in the latter stages of the third quarter to appear to have all the momentum. But there was plenty of spirit on display and a Daicos like snap from Brad Prior got us off to a good start. Colesy was in the action as was Ned Sturrock. Again it was one for the goalkickers with Colesy and Benny Oakes both getting 5 majors.

The U/19s finished their home and away year with an emphatic 81 point win over Hampton Rovers which tuned them up nicely for their finals campaign. It was a different goal kicking scene, however with 10 individual scorers. Sam Loewe got the team off to a good start with two majors in the first quarter. The first half was competitive but the Bloods were able to run away in the second, keeping Rovers to a single goal. Ollie Sharpe was dominant in the ruck , while Rayner Seccull provided plenty of drive off the half back flank.
